Finally, Sanusi Reply's President Jonathan


The suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has responded to the various allegations levelled against him by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), which were cited as the reason for his suspension from office on February 19, 2014.

In a 27-page response released yesterday, the suspended governor also expressed sincere hope that having painstakingly provided detailed explanation, backed by verifiable documents, President Goodluck Jonathan would find his explanation satisfactory and “in line with his (Jonathan’s) adherence to fairness and justice”, revisit and redress the issue of his suspension.

Awesome Stuff! US Ambassador Speaks Pidgin English on Radio


The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, James F. Entwistle, during an interview with WAZOBIA FM spoke in pidgin english throughout. He was asked about Nigeria’s controversial new anti-gay legislation and whether the U.S. might impose sanctions and he said in pidgin: "The U.S. government no say sanction go dey for Nigeria, because of same-sex palava-o,”, meaning that the U.S. is not going to impose sanctions on Nigeria for passing a law criminalising same-sex marriages.

Expectedly, the show of shame at the recently held recruitment examination of the Nigerian Immigration Service, drew condemnation from so many quarters and rightfully so. One of such was the Speaker House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, who said the death of the applicants should be investigated.

While describing the deaths as unfortunate,  the speaker had in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Imam Imam, said the incident was more regrettable considering the fact that the young people were at the screening centers in search of jobs that would have bettered their lots and that of their loved ones.

EXCLUSIVE: Police Arrest Suspect for Fraud, Impersonation


The Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Milverton, Ikoyi, Lagos, has arrested one Okonkwo Nwachukwu, for fraud and impersonation based on a petition by one of his victims. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Isintume-Agu, said the suspect specialised in opening multiple accounts with different names to defraud banks, other financial institutions and unsuspecting members of the public.

She said, “In a petition to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Unit, DCP Zubairu Muazu, dated February 12, 2014, it was alleged that the suspect appeared at Amuwo Odofin Branch of Zenith Bank to open a savings account.

TACTLESS MORO FINALLY SHOWS SOME DEGREE OF SENSITIVITY


 Hours after his tactless blame of the death of 16 job applicants on their supposed impatience, the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro has finally said  he was really  sad by the death of young Nigerians seeking employment during the stampede at the recruitment exercise conducted by Nigeria Immigration Service NIS at the National Stadium , Abuja  as well as in Benin , Edo State and in Minna , Niger  State  over the weekend .

The Minister who in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media George Udoh, commiserated with the bereaved families in particular and Nigerians as a whole,  described  the incident as a national tragedy.

                                         







                                                                                      






NLC Demands Investigation into Immigration Employment Process


Condemnations continued to trail the circumstances which led to the death of 20 Nigerians in the stampede at the recruitment exercise of the Nigeria Immigration Service last weekend, as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),  has demanded a full investigation into the methods adopted by the NIS for the exercise.

The Congress said the NIS employed what turned out to be a tragic process out of crass opportunism, to maximise the opportunity to bleed the applicants who were asked to pay N1000 each.

It described as shocking what it said is the avoidable deaths of unemployed applicants in circumstances that turned out to be a do or die struggle for employment.






                                                                                      







Chaos as Immigration Recruitment Exam Flops


Chaos reigned supreme at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday as the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) employment examination which took place in all states of the federation flopped especially in Lagos.

This is just as the men of the state police and the Nigerian Security and  Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), allegedly shot at the candidates in order to disperse them from mobbing their vehicles.

One of the candidates, Uche Ikechukwu,  said the preparation level by the NIS was nil as they were not able to control the mammoth crowd that surged the stadium for the exam.

He said, "We got there about 7am and we waited until about 4pm. We were about 10,000 . In fact, the stadium was filled to capacity but the examiners were nowhere to be found.

Police Arrest 26 Suspects, Recover 1501 Stolen Generators, Others


Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), yesterday paraded a total of 26 armed robbery suspects and their accomplices, recovered a truck load of 1501 generators which were hijacked by the suspects and other stolen items.

The suspects who were arrested from different operations    include,  Lukman Adenekan, Moses Ozowe , Jide Ishola , and Temitope Isiaka, Kuburat Ayinde, Fatimoh Abolakale, Alhaja Muyinat Ogattan , Yetunde Adekunle and Lekan Ibrahim. Others include Abba Mustapha, Abdullai Mustapha , Michael Oloruntoke, Ibrahim Aga, Tobi Adenuga and Shile Ganiyu.

The Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Chairperson of River State Command headed by Mrs. Chinyere Ogunsakin on a visit to the POWA Market at Mini Okoro Market said POWA is to give assistance to widow who are in petty trading and charging widow for the market space should be fair and moderate.

Mrs Ogunsakin at inspection of Eleke Ohia market condemned the idea of allocation the former executives were using especially neglecting the less privileged who she believes should be the beneficiary.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tunde Ogunsakin in a courtesy visit to the Controller of Prison, Rivers State Command has break a jinx affecting the Prison Services Operations. In a visit he paid to the Controller of Prison, Mr. Patrick Ondoma at the Mile 4 Area Command of the prison service. The Controller in his speech welcomed the Police Commissioner to the Command and River State. He said Rivers State has been enjoying wonderful peace since his arrival.

Obi bows out as Obiano is Sworn-in as Anambra Governor


 The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate who won in the November 16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano, was yesterday administered with both the oath of office and allegiance as the new Governor of the state by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi. Before him however his running mate in the election, Dr. Nkem Okeke   had taken the same oath at about 1.55pm.

The operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Task Force on Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Unit, Lagos Command, yesterday foiled plans by pipeline vandals to steal PMS from the NNPC pipeline along Ikate-Akute axis, in Ojodu, Ogun state. Acting on a tip-off the operatives led by the Lagos Sector Commander, DSP Samson Olawoyin, stormed the scene, engaged the suspects in a gun duel and arrested one  Abbey Daniel.

Although other suspects numbering about 10 fled to evade arrest, the taskforce were able to recover some of the abandoned equipment including five speed boats containing about 4000 empty 50litters gallon, with which they planned to carry the stolen products.
