NSCDC Official Tortures, Kills Mother of Four in Lagos

For yet-to-be ascertained reasons, a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) attached to Lagos State Command at the weekend tortured and shot a woman dead after they stormed Saponkoji Village near Ogogoro village, an Island in Apapa, Lagos.
According to an eyewitness account, the personnel numbering over 20, had stormed the island, firing sporadically into the air even though there was no threat to their lives.

The deceased, Angelina Dansu, a mother of four, was said to have resisted attempts by the NSCDC personnel to cart away her kerosene, which she insisted she bought legally from a petrol station.

To punish her  for  her “stubbornness,” the civil defence personnel allegedly stripped her naked and beat her to a pulp but when she tried to escape, an eyewitness account claimed the suspect shot her in her naked state.

Although the bullet reportedly hit her thigh, she was found dead hours later when the villagers dared to come out of their various hideouts.
The deceased’s husband, Paul, said he was not at home when the incident occurred and only returned to hear the news of how his wife was brutally tortured and subsequently killed by NSCDC officials.

He said: “My wife is not a petroleum pipeline vandal. She bought the kerosene with her money and was retailing the product when the officials came to seize it.

“Now they have killed her, leaving me with the responsibility of catering for four children alone. Even though I was not around, I heard the officials came with guns, arrow, and cutlasses.

“They were just breaking into people’s houses, destroying so many doors in search of petroleum product based on what information we are yet to understand.”

Attempts to confirm the incident from the NSCDC Lagos State Command Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Bada, proved abortive as her number was still switched off as at press time.
