But for providence, a middle-aged woman would have today
been burnt to ashes at the Ajegunle area of Lagos, on suspicion that she stole
a newborn baby from a private hospital located at Aiyetoro Street.
Eyewitness account stated that the victim was on her way
home from the hospital when passersby, who tried to ascertain how a woman her
age could still give birth, accosted her.
Although, she disclosed that the child actually belonged to
her daughter, the angry mob descended on her, stripped her naked and attempted
to burn her.
When alerted, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajegunle
Police Station, CSP Abayomi Agbana, drafted a team of policemen to the scene
and they rescued the grandmother and the newborn baby to the station.
She was exonerated after the medical director of the
hospital came to the station and confirmed her story.
