With the recent revelations
of the planned renewed attacks by Boko Haram sect in different parts of the
country, checks has revealed that security has been tightened in all formations
in Lagos.
The recent security measures
put on ground was informed by the signal released by the intelligence personnel
of the Defence Headquarters, informing all military formations of the plans by
terrorists to unleash fresh mayhem.
According to the signal, the
terrorists had formalised plans to acquire vehicles in military colours to beat
the numerous security checkpoints, thereby gaining full access
into military formations
without stress.
It was also authoritatively
gathered that vehicles such as the Peugeot 406, 307, 408 and 407, which is
synonymous with the military, were part of the vehicles purchased in the fleet
of the terrorists.
These vehicles which were
painted in military colours of sky blue, navy blue and dark green to represent
the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Army respectively, would
upon deployment help gain access into an otherwise secured military formations.
Upon the release of the
signal to all arms of the Armed Forces, the personnels on duty especially the
sentries and soldiers manning the gates have since been warned to be on the
look out.
The directive, which is sure
to cause hackles especially amongst the senior officers, stipulates that if need be, all vehicles be
checked at the point of entry despite whose ox is gored.
A military source on strict conditions of anonymity, said the stringent security
measures on ground was to prevent a repetition of the Maiduguri incident, where
the Air Force base was infiltrated by the insurgents.
The source said,
"Sentries have been directed to conduct a thorough search on such vehicles
to ascertain the identity of the occupants especially those with tinted glasses
before allowing them access.
"In fact, the personnel
have been warned to disregard any insignia of rank and search the vehicle once
their suspicion is aroused and they can always demand the identity of the
occupant if need be. “
