Ngige wins Anambra APC primaries

RESULT of the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, conducted in all the 326 wards in Anambra State Monday for the selection of the party’s candidate for the November 16 election has been announced.

Senator Chris Ngige scored 53255 votes to defeat Chief Godwin Ezemo who scored 9554 votes.
The result was announced at the Emmaus House, Awka collation center by the chairman of the primaries committee, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau.
Shekarau commended members of the party in all the wards in the state for their peaceful conduct during and after the exercise.

Suntai Remains Incommunicado as Acting Gov Makes Moves

Six days after addressing the people of the state, recuperating Taraba State Governor, Danbaba Suntai, has remained incommunicado. In a video transmitted on state television last Wednesday, Suntai had addressed the people of the state during which he thanked them for their prayers for him and his family, and urged them to continue to pray for the peace and unity of the state after which he met with the leadership of the state House of Assembly.

Gunmen Kill 10 in Kaduna

Ten people have been killed by unknown gun men in an attack on Addu Village, Attakar Chiefdom, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The bandits, about 20 in number, were said to have raided the village in the early hours of Monday shooting sporadically at the villagers.

Anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela was discharged from hospital yesterday, but remains critically ill and will receive intensive care at his home, the South African government said. The 95-year-old had been in hospital for almost three months, receiving treatment for a respiratory illness.
The presidency said in a statement that he “remains critical and is at times unstable” and will be looked after by the same team of intensive care doctors at his Johannesburg home. “If there are health conditions that warrant another admission to hospital in future, this will be done,” AFP quoted the presidency as stating. An ambulance with police escort was seen arriving at his suburban home, north of Johannesburg, yesterday morning.

Justin Bieber got in quite the predicament Friday night when the singer was attacked by a partier at a Toronto nightclub, TMZ reports.    The scuffle -- caught on camera -- happened at 3 a.m. when the 19-year-old entertainer left his VIP section to interact with other people in the room.
A male charged at the "As Long As You Love Me" singer and security immediately rushed in to the manage the situation. The attacker was kicked out of the club and the police were not called.

Federal Government has moved put to rest the rivalry between the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police over control of the nation's critical infrastructures by declaring that the role is constitutionally designated to the Corps.
President Goodluck Jonathan, worried by the spate of vandalism of all the critical infrastructure and national assets in the country,has therefore called on the warring security agencies to bury their differences so as to put an end to what he described a ‘threat’ to the nation development.

Emotions were rife yesterday when the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Abel Umahi, presented the sum of N1million each to the families of the 12 army personnel who were killed in active duty in Maiduguri. 

The 12 personnel drawn from the 174 Battalion were part of those killed last month on August 4, in the ongoing insurgency in the North-eastern part of Nigeria instigated by the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist sect.

The Brazilian Navy Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) ARAGUARI, yesterday pledged to partner with its Nigerian counterpart in ensuring maximum security in the maritime domain of both countries especially in the Gulf of Guinea. 

The Commander of the vessel, Lieutenant Commander  Robledo De Lemos Costa Esa, who is currently on a two-day visit to Lagos with the ship's crew, made this disclosure during the courtesy call to the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Ibok Ette-Ibas.

EXCLUSIVE: Navy Arrests Two Beninoise, Three Others for Pipeline Vandalism


The officials of Nigerian Naval Ship (NNS) Beecroft, of the Nigerian Navy (NN) yesterday paraded two indigenes of Benin Republic and three others for pipeline vandalism and recovered 270 kegs of 50 litres Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The five suspected pipeline vandals were arrested for allegedly syphoning  petroleum products from a ruptured pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at Makoko and were conveying them to the Third Mainland bridge area of Iyana Oworo.
