FG Targets 80 Million Nigerians for HIV Testing

In its attempt to curtail the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country, the federal government, under the President’s Comprehensive Response Plan (PCRP), plans to avail 80 million Nigerians, aged 15 and above with their HIV status.

President Goodluck Jonathan made this known  Tuesday at the AIDS Watch Africa Champions breakfast meeting held at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja.

It was a typical insider job as valid and classified information was divulged to facilitate the kidnap of a Chinese businessman and another man whose friend plotted his kidnap in Lagos.  Two different parties who were close to their victims arranged their abduction and collected huge sums of money as ransom running into millions of naira.

While two of the suspects identified as Aduloju Taiwo, 32, and Ufot Akayiene had arranged and executed the kidnap of their boss, a Chinese staff of ZTE Nigeria Limited, Kuang Vingjun, another member of the gang, Jimoh Olalere, arranged the kidnap of his (Vingjun’s) friend, Ifeanyi Kingsley.

House Summons Adoke over Malabu Oil Deal

The House of Representatives yesterday summoned the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, over a letter he purportedly wrote to a foreign organisation, Global Witness, stating that the House had cleared him of any wrongdoing in the controversial Malabu oil deal.

A Saudi who was freed from Guantanamo Bay only to become second-in-command of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has been killed. Said al Shehri died in a US-led drone strike in Yemen, senior AQAP official Ibrahim al Rubaish said in a video statement posted online. "I present my condolences to all the Mujahideen on the martyrdom of Said al-Shehri who was killed in a US drone attack," said Rubaish.

Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi has said Fernabahce of Turkey star defender, Joseph Yobo, remains the national team skipper, even if he has not been in constant contact with him recently. Speaking at a media interraction at the team’s camp Bolton White Apartments in Abuja on Wednesday, Keshi said he has a lot of respect for Yobo because of what he has done for the nation but cannot invite him to the team only to put him on the bench.
“It will not be fair to invite Yobo to the national team and asked him to be on the bench, it will be a huge disgrace and I won’t be part of that. When the team needs him he will be recalled and will definitely start as captain even if along the line we substitute him.”

Cory Monteith, star of the hit TV musical comedy Glee, died from a heroin and alcohol overdose, a coroner in British Columbia has announced. The 31-year-old Canadian actor, who played Finn Hudson in the Fox TV hit, was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room on Saturday. Monteith, who had been in the musical comedy since its 2009 start, was treated for drug addiction in April.

Army: Al-Mustapha to Retire as a Major

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha,  former Chief Security Officer (CSO)to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, may soon be retired with the rank of Major which he was wearing before he was charged with murder 14 years ago, it was learnt  Tuesday.
Military authorities had confirmed on Monday, that he was still in service following his acquittal last Friday of murder charges. But checks revealed  Tuesday that Al-Mustapha would be officially retired from service with full benefits.

Stevie Wonder to Boycott Florida over Zimmerman

Stevie Wonder has said he will not perform in Florida and other states with a "stand your ground" law following the controversial verdict in the George Zimmerman trial. In a video posted on YouTube, the 63-year-old singer said at a concert in Quebec City in Canada: "Until the stand your ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again.
"Wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world." The stand your ground law allows people to use deadly force if they believe their life is in danger. Zimmerman claimed he fired his gun in self-defence when he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin during a confrontation in Sanford, Florida, in February 2012.

NAF Arrests Chief of Air Staff Facebook Impersonator

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has arrested one Mr. Israel Justice Ukaegbu, for impersonating the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Alex Badeh, on the popular social media site, Facebook, with an account name “AS Badeh”. The Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas,  paraded Ukaegbu to journalists  Wednesday at the NAF headquarters in Abuja.
Anas disclosed that the suspect who was arrested at No. 3 Azikiwe Road, Aba, Abia State,on the facebook displayed a portrait photograph of the CAS while interacting with the unsuspecting public in that capacity.
