Labour shuts Diamond bank’s operations over sacked workers



 LEADERS of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, its affiliate, National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, NUBIFIE, and other activists, yesterday, shut down the operations  of Diamond Bank Plc’s Head Office, and two other key branches in Lagos, over alleged labour infractions, including the sack of 200 union members and officials.

Police parade man who killed, buried wife


Police have paraded man who allegedly beat his  wife to death at Igbemo Ekiti recently, just as the police have exhumed the body of the 39-year-old mother of three for autopsy. According to reports,the man, Mr Adewale Daramola, recently clubbed his wife, Iyabo, to death during a disagreement at Igbemo Ekiti and quickly buried her.
Speaking with newsmen while parading the suspect, the Police image maker in the state, Mr Victor Babayemi, said the suspect  allegedly clubbed his wife  to death after a disagreement.

Nigerian Author Wins Caine Prize

US-based Nigerian writer, Tope Folarin has won this year's prestigious Caine Prize for African Writing. He received the £10,000 ($15,000) prize for his short story Miracle, set in an evangelical Nigerian church in the US city of Texas. The judges described it as a "delightful and beautifully paced narrative".
Folarin was among five writers short-listed for the prize, regarded as Africa's leading literary award. Three other Nigerians were short-listed - Elnathan John for Bayan Layi, Abubakar Adam Ibrahim for The Whispering Trees and Chinelo Okparanta for America.

Niger Delta: JTF Arrests Bayelsa Traditional Ruler for Crude Oil Theft

One of the foremost traditional rulers in Bayelsa State (name withheld) is in the custody of the Joint (Military) Task Force (JTF) on the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, for allegedly sponsoring crude oil theft.
The high-ranking traditional ruler was arrested along with three other persons for their alleged involvement in crude oil theft in the waterways of the Niger Delta.

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has asked the National Assembly to immediately commence impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan over his alleged role in the ongoing crisis in Rivers State.
The party blames President Jonathan for failing to live up to his oath of office to uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

If you haven't heard, the crisis rocking the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a turn for the worse Tuesday when five out of 32 lawmakers claimed that they had impeached the speaker, Hon. Otelemaba Amachree.

The five are believed to be allies of the Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike, whose faction of the state PDP wrested control of the party from the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, following a court judgment.
