Abiola ...the symbol of June 12 struggle
Once upon a time- precisely some 20 years ago- in the very heart of West Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria, held an election that was widely adjudged the freest and fairest and about the most credible on the continent at the time. And, except something fundamentally defining changes, that electoral exercise seems to have a lifetime rating on the chart of political history.

It was an experience that completely changed the cause of history. Coming from the backdrop of incivility that often characterised the conduct of elections in Africa generally and indeed, other developing countries of the world, the pride of the June 12, 1993 presidential election was shared
beyond the borders of Nigeria. Even the colonial masters would be proud then that things were about
looking up for one of their former colonies.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy (CME) and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
The introduction of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in the ministries, departments and agencies of the federal government has so far led to the discovery of 46,821 ghost workers and saved the nation N118.9 billion.
This is even as the Coordinating Minister for the Economy (CME) and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has attributed the low revenue by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to the federal government’s deliberate policy to cut down on the importation of rice and other staple food items with a view to boosting local production.

Some of the policemen in their bathroom slippers captured by lens
By Chiemelie Ezeobi

In what seems like a throw-back to President Goodluck Jonathan's days of 'no shoes', the men of the Trinity Police Station under the Area B Command in Lagos State, appear sentenced to working without shoes, no thanks to the rains which have made nonsense of any attempt to wear shoes within the station.

Instead of the normal black leather shoes that are compulsory part of the police dress code at Trinity Police Station, it is bathroom slippers, flip flops, rain boots and palms slippers, all the way, both junior and even senior officers.
