Security challenges pose as a problem to societal development, as not only does it hamper requisite growth and innovations, it also endangers lives of members living in that society. Despite all these today, most security companies have not only risen to the challenges of providing information on security matters but also backing them up with sophisticated gadgets and equipment to keep the menace bay.

Atamu: Providing a Platform for Promotion of Unity

founding father

By Chiemelie Ezeobi

It was a colourful occasion when the guests dressed in resplendent attires arrived Oriental Hotel, Lagos, the venue of the Investiture of the President and Management Team of Atamu Social Club of Nigeria. From the cascade of colors, it promised to be a promising occasion and it certainly lived up to expectation. The gathering of the socio-cultural group was just one of the ways through which it champions unity and sustainable development of Urhobo nation.

Ondor Edwin: The Politics of Fuel Subsidy

During the opening session of the maiden Presidential retreat with selected business moguls of the private sector held at the Banquet Hall of Aso Rock recently, the president assured the nation in a tentative policy statement that  generated furore, that the proceeds from the planned fuel subsidy would be invested in creating an abundance of ‘tangible infrastructure’ and  the provision of ‘social safety nets and other mechanisms to moderate the impact of the reforms on the most vulnerable segments of our society’. On paper, this is a  fine, open-ended statement!  In reality, it sounds like a comedy of error. It is a daunting task to attempt to conceive the viability of this political statement and how it can kick-start our crawling economy.

Ondor Edwin: A Nation in limbo

As a child growing up in the early exhilarating days of post-independent Nigeria  when the grass was greener on the other side, I remember with nostalgia the serene atmosphere and tranquil cadence that permeated the nation. This is a bitter-sweet  random musing of a nation that once floated  on the wings of tranquility, sometimes a humdrum and routine tranquility that was intermittently punctuated by the military’s unconstitutional incursion into Dodan Barracks politics. They did it with a certain defiant bravado and shameless masculinity that was out of sync with the refined  nobility of the  profession . In spite of their dance of shame on the national scene, we could still hold our flag high and stand with pride in The United Nations with a sense of intoxicating patriotism and  increasing popularity on the global stage as the giant of Africa, an identity we wore with continental respectability and responsibility. It was an awesome socio-political and diplomatic identity that reflected our emerging international clout which hitherto was beyond the far reaches of Africa.

BETHIA IDOKO; It’s More Blessed to Give

In this interview with Bethia Idoko, model, tourist and philanthropist who has continued to touch the lives of the less privileged and orphans in the society, she reiterates to Chiemelie Ezeobi how much of a blessing comes from giving

You don’t have a non-governmental organisation or foundation, so why are you so passionate about less privileged and orphans?
I have been doing this for a while and this is actually the ninth edition. I do it every time basically for the kids especially on Valentine’s Day which symbolises love.  I mean, they are orphans and those of us thankfully or luckily that are not orphans have people to show us love all over, but for this young kids here, they basically don’t have as much love as they should because they didn’t grow up with physical mother-father -family kind of life. So, every year I gather family; my parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Idoko, my siblings; Josh, Loveth, Zephanie, Kaptain and friends to the Little Saints Orphanage, Akowonjo, because it makes them very happy and it leaves me satisfied. It is such a blessing to give to these kids. I see them beyond their immediate environment. In them I see the future.

MD FIDELITY BANK'S SPEECH AT THE NIGERIAN BLOGGERS FAIR

MD FIDELITY, IHEJIAHI REGINALD

Dear  Friends,
I am very delighted to welcome you to this event marking the end of the Nigerian Bloggers Fair 2013. As you are aware, the world as we once knew it has gone and it is now a whole new world, courtesy of information technology people like you.
A few years ago, only birds could “tweet”; the only “facebook” you know was possibly your photo album; and “blogging” didn’t mean anything I can readily remember. But these are the things that have changed the way mankind receives information and are indeed gradually shaping the course of human history, as we saw in the “Arab Springs”.  The use and impact of the New Media in recent elections in the United States of America have been widely acknowledged.

By Chiemelie Ezeobi

Contrary to the norm that diligent people especially security agencies do not receive their reward on earth, Crown Media Limited in collaboration with Soundz and Meknitz Limited, with supports from TVE, a subsidiary of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Vanguard, The Nation, have put plans in place to rectify that anomaly.

After deliberations, the organisers established an award system that would inspire bravery and diligence among officers that would make them go the extra mile in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

Miracle Twins Born 87 Days Apart Set Guinness World Record

In what can only be called an absolute miracle, a set of twins from Ireland were born 87 days apart from each other - setting a Guinness World Record for "longest interval between the birth of twins." The miracle twins truly have an incredible story.
It all started when their mother, Maria, went into labor right before her 24th week began. The mother's water broke and after two days of labour, her first twin, Amy, was born. Because of her size - a mere 1 pound, 3 ounces - the dangerously premature baby was rushed to the NICU. Doctors prepped for the birth of the second twin. But something bizarre happened. Maria's contractions stopped.

DELE MOMODU: Devil on the Cross

Fellow Nigerians, I’m sure you are already wondering what this title is all about. I will explain in a minute, and you will understand in a jiffy. If you are a lover of Literature like me, you must be familiar with the name, NgugiwaThiong’O, the famous Kenyan writer and author of the stupendously popular ‘Weep Not, Child’. This article has nothing to do with any of his books, and I’ve read so many of them, but about certain IRONIC developments close to its theme. I have therefore decided to borrow the title of one of his novels, ‘Devil on the Cross’ to encapsulate this piece.

Ashiru: US Has Not Withdrawn Military Assistance to Nigeria
