Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) Thursday led leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC), including some senators and members of the House of Representatives to submit a letter of protest to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the marred Anambra state governorship election.
But security operatives were on ground at the INEC office apparently on learning about the planned protest, a situation that was said to have grounded activities in the electoral commission office.
As early as 10 am, the Police, contingent of the Nigerian Army, officials of the Department of the State Services (DSS) and the Police laid siege and barricaded all the entrance to the commission.
There were more than 20 Toyota Hilux Vans at both entrance of the commission, waiting for the APC protesters led by General Buhari. THISDAY counted over hundred Anti Riot Policemen and several officials of the DSS. Visitors were refused entry into INEC , while staff that came late to office were turned back till the end of the protest.
A Chieftain of the party, Senator Osita Izunaso said that the protesters, including 34 senators were led by Senator George Akume and the members of the House of Representatives were led by Hon. Gbaje Biamila, Ogbonnaya Onu, Bisi Akanda, Bola Tinubu.
