CANTICLES BY Eddy Odivwri: Please Leave the Princess Alone

Stella Oduah
I don’t know why you people of these days have very scant regard for royalty and blue-blooded personages.
How do you mean?

What do you mean by how? Are you not in this country? Have you not seen how our dear Princess Stella Oduah, a lady of stellar attributes, the Honourable minister of Aviation is being harangued, scandalized and even demonized?
What are you implying? That the Hon Minister be spared because she is from a royal home? Look, I can tell you that even the king himself who dares what she did would lose his crown.

What did she do? I wonder why you busy body people will not mind your businesses. The Princess did not ask for Bullet proof cars. It was a gift from one of the agencies under her ministry. The cars in question were not registered in her personal name, which means it is official.  And for crying out loud, she is a top government functionary who must be protected. The cars are not sheer luxury. They are to provide the minister unassailable cover.
Indeed! Was she under threat? Even if she was, why not engage the police? Are you saying that whoever that gets threatened in this country must resort to buying bullet-proof cars? You think it is beans?
I can see that some of you critics are simply jealous. And that is what is provoking all these baleful comments. Look, the basic questions to ask is whether she is entitled to such protection, and whether or not, the purchase of the cars followed civil service Due Process.
You are talking nonsense.  Jealous of Oduah, because of what? Because she is a princess or because she is a Miserable Spinster (MS)
You are very mischievous. You are all jealous of her good looks, her achievements, her pedigree, her feats etc. and that is why there is high network of conspiracy to pull her down. That is not her portion and all you commissioned to do so will surely fail IJN.

On the contrary, the basic questions are these: was the purchase of the cars budgeted for by the NCAA? Was it right for the NCAA, an autonomous agency under the ministry to buy cars for the Minister? After such a gesture, can the Minister ever sanction the NCAA again, if it errs? What is the cost of the armoured car at the factory, plus shipment to Nigeria? Is it true the cars cost N32 million each, in which case the two should cost N64 million? So why is Oduah’s own costing N255million?
And pray, why buy two armoured cars at the same time? Is it because of her royalty too or she is doubly hunted?
You can see that the transaction has failed the 3-P’s test.
What’s 3-P’s test?

The Purpose, Price and Process are all warped.
But it went through Due Process.
Because no DG of any parastatal who loves his/her job will snub the request of an ambitious minister. So they could have ridden rough shod on the process, for all you care.
You sound as if the whole process was arranged as an official coercion.
You said so.
And that is why Mr President has constituted a 3-man panel to probe the transaction. In two weeks, the findings will be out.
You think we are persuaded by that? Look, nothing will come out of that probe. It is aimed at selling the impression of government taking an action. Not more. Oduah is one of the corner rocks of the Jonathan administration. Nothing will happen to her. If you doubt me, take another look at the terms of reference. It is more on process than the propriety of the transaction. Government is not foolish, you know!
Your mischief quotient is so very high.
Again, you said so.

You Nigerians, forget too soon. You guys forget the pivotal role she played for the Jonathan presidency via the Neighbour 2 Neighbour platform? You forget how supportive she’s been of the presidency?
And you think Jonathan is so godless to sacrifice her at this crucial hour? Never! Again, your plans will fail.
We did not forget anything. We also remember she was once a hair dresser in Warri.

And please stop whipping up banal sentiments. We are talking of public service codes and ethics here. Did she commit infraction or not? That’s the question. Not whether she was a neighbour, activist or donor ? We don’t care! If she has erred, she must face sanction. Or do we have two sets of laws in this country?
Whar’ever! All I ask is that you people should leave the poor princess alone, if nothing else for all she has done in the aviation industry. Or have you not seen the transformation of the nation’s airports? Eh, haven’t you? Answer me!
Transformation at what cost? Please let’s not go there.
