I was, believe me, under no illusions last week when I asked the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, to say “sorry” to Nigerians for her role in the outrageous purchase of two armoured cars. For the life of me, I knew she wouldn’t apologise. That would be very unNigerian. Part of the qualifications for being a public officer in Nigeria is to be greedy, arrogant and shameless. How can a whole minister apologise? How can a whole minister say it is wrong to buy two bullet-proof cars for over a quarter of a billion naira? How can a whole minister say “I was wrong to approve the transaction”? How can a whole minister say, “As the supervisory minister for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), I hereby take full responsibility for this mess”? There is too much shamelessness in public office for people to cultivate a moral conscience.

Toyosi Akerele: Stella Oduah no brain,no beauty, no conscience!

Madam Stella Oduah, in your gutter style thinking, a BMW is an assurance that you won’t die soon. You should have a conversation with Abacha. Madam, Nemesis is COLD.
It comes in the forms of Poison, Cancer etc & to pay your Bills, those BMWs will be auctioned at give away Prices. I don’t wish death for anyone but I’m hopeful that one day a handful of Nigerian Govt Officials will sleep and not wake up.
This is too much. HEAR THIS! Dear President Jonathan! If the Nigerian Masses rise against you, Stella Oduah and your other Corrupt Friends cannot save you. And President Jonathan is so silent. His Silence so sad. The sadness engulfs our Souls.

Late Chief Jacob Odivwri

I had a bad Wednesday. It took the laconic terse message of my eldest brother, Mr G.A Odivwri, to get the day spoilt. His sms read:  “We lost the case”. My body started shaking soon as I read the message. It was the case we had all looked forward to in the family. A case we thought will finally console us and assuage our pains, in a way. It is the case of the prosecution of those suspected to have kidnapped and killed my father, Chief Jacob Odivwri Edjesa, almost five years ago. The details of the case, the investigations, the dialectics of the prosecution process have all given us hope that justice would one day be done.

Chris Aligbe gives insight into some of the ills of Nigeria’s aviation sector
In my spare time, I always tune in to the DSTV Channels showing Nigerian and African movies. I do so because the plots are usually abstractions from our society. They mirror the valueless times and the moral decadence in which we live and then pull us back to our value-laden past, when families and individuals prided themselves in their high moral standing. One of the movies featured a young Catechist (Francis Duru) who put an “innocent” girl acted by Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha in a family way, denied her and got her thrown into the streets. But nemesis caught up with him when the truth was discovered and he was forced to marry her in conformity with the cherished values of the Christian faith.
