A mother who beat her seven-year-old son "like a dog" when he failed to memorise passages of the Koran has been found guilty of his murder. Sara Ege, 33, beat Yaseen Ege to death at their home in Pontcanna, Cardiff, in July 2010 and set fire to his body. She was also found guilty of perverting the course of justice at Cardiff Crown Court. Sentence was adjourned.

Eddie Murphy named most 'overpaid' actor by Forbes

Eddie Murphy has been named 2012's most overpaid actor, says Forbes magazine. The star of hits such as Shrek and Dr Dolittle has recently appeared in a number of flops including Imagine That, A Thousand Words and Meet Dave.
According to the list, those box office flops mean that for every $1 (62p) Murphy was paid for his last three films, they took an average of $2.30 (£1.40) at the box office.

Pioneering jazz pianist and composer Dave Brubeck has died, aged 91. Born in California, Brubeck's mother was a keen pianist, and the musician later joked that he had been introduced to the instrument while still in the womb.
The musician, whose recordings included Take Five and Blue Rondo a la Turk, was once designated a "living legend" by the US Library of Congress.
He died on Wednesday morning in hospital in Connecticut, his manager Russell Gloyd told the Chicago Tribune newspaper.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, has defended the huge allocations in the 2013 Budget for the construction of houses for Vice President Namadi Sambo and other senior government officials.
Mohammed defended the allocations when he appeared before the Senate Committee on the FCT on Tuesday. He said that the territory’s N50bn budget for 2013 included a N2bn funding for the construction of the official residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo.

The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, has warned that any officer found culpable in the November 26 attack on the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) headquarters in Abuja will be punished.
Abubakar said this in Abuja Tuesday  during his official visit to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.
